Who are 2021’s “master painters”?
Master Painter NZ’s annual Awards of Excellence were scheduled to be announced at its 2021 Conference in Blenheim this September but, for obvious reasons, the event was cancelled.
In lieu of this event we can bring you some of the results covering both the highest achieving painting professionals and the tools they use.
2021’s NZ Master Painter of the Year and Commercial Master Painter of the Year was Painting Solutions NZ Wellington (www. paintsolutions.co.nz).
Led by Gerard Bond, Wellington’s Painting Solutions NZ team scored the highest points ever awarded for the project they submitted, thanks to the high quality of their work on a highly complex commercial interior with a very high degree of technical difficulty.
The project in question was the 116-room Naumi Studio Hotel Wellington, an iconic heritage landmark in the heart of the Cuba Street precinct which has been extensively and sumptuously renovated into a “visual feast for the senses” (see the photos!).
on another equally sumptuous Naumi Hotel interior in Queenstown which took out the Grand Prix New Zealand award in this year’s Dulux Colour Awards.
The other 2021 Master Painter of the Year Category Winners were JMA Decorators, also of Wellington (Group Home Applicator of
the Year), and Team DH of Manawatu who took out both the 2021 Residential Master Painter of the Year and Wallcoverings Applicator of the Year trophies.
Other plaudits would have been handed to the following high achievers from the supply side of the industry:
• Best Paint Product – Resene Lustacryl Commercial Spray Grade
• Best Decorating Tool or Product – Roller Blaster
• Best Trade Advert – Resene Rugby Banners
• Best Merchant – Dulux Trade Centres
• Best Trade Rep, North Island – Dean Blackwood (Dulux Auckland) • Best Trade Rep, South Island – Rob Boyce (Dulux Canterbury)
