Collins Group goes MEGA in Oamaru
THE COLLINS GROUP has confirmed that it will open a Mitre 10 MEGA on Dee Street, Oamaru, in 2020.
Mitre 10 Oamaru owner-operator, Simon Lye, says Collins Group is investing $18 million into a new 6,000m2 store which will be almost three times the footprint of the existing Mitre 10 store.
“Once complete, we will need to employ a further 20 team members, in a mix of full and part-time roles. This will see our team grow to more than 60 people,” he says.
Formerly Robertson’s Hardware until 1992, Collins Group’s current Mitre 10 store on the corner of Cross and Severn Streets by comparison is a mere 2,200m2.
Work on the site for the new Dee Street MEGA has started, but it’s early days yet to give a firm opening date.
Simon Lye: “we’re tracking towards opening in early 2020, but that’s a long way out yet and we will have a better idea closer to the time.”
The new store will bring with it extended and new product ranges and a fully serviced trade offer, as well as amenities like a Columbus Café and a playground.
Owned by the Lye family, Collins
Group, whose involvement with the cooperative goes back to the late 1970s, also operates Mitre 10 MEGA Timaru and Mitre 10 MEGA Ashburton.
