rainwater management
For valleys and gutters
Roofing Industries’ new Ezi-Lok system is both a gutter screen and a valley screen.
Ezi-Lok is a very light, pre-painted aluminium screen system and it can easily be cut to length and snapped into place on all existing gutter systems.
Plus, it is removable for maintenance, with access to remove seeds, mould and moss passing through into the valley or gutter.
You just lift the screens up out of the spouting system or valley, clean them out and snap them back into place, says the company.

edge of the fascia is level and take your measure from that, as the board can bow and twist over time.
“What’s proven increasingly popular, especially in high rainfall areas, is our half-round Marley Typhoon system which offers a nice, contemporary look with a really good flow rate. It gives you the option of internal brackets or external brackets for a more traditional look and comes in colours, including Black for a cast- iron look, and our Copper and Titanium metallics.”
INTENSIFICATION, RETENTION AND DETENTION
And in line with urban intensification, Nigel Montgomery adds that councils are driving greater uptake of other Marley products that help reduce sediment build-ups in underground stormwater detention tanks, as an example.
“Our Curve leaf diverter is a product you can put on every single downpipe to take out leaf litter and debris. They’ve been commonly applied in rural environments for many years to protect the quality of potable rainwater collected and retained from a roof.
“Now, with the intensification of housing, particularly in Auckland, and the increase in hard surface areas and resulting run-off, it puts a massive strain on fairly antiquated stormwater systems.
“So a lot of councils are requiring that new developments have water detention tanks that detain the water and slowly release it, rather than having everybody’s water run off hitting and overloading the stormwater infrastructure at the same time.
“Just like retention tanks, detention tanks can fill with sludge as leaves and debris accumulate and break down, so by removing this at the downpipes Curve can be as beneficial in an urban environment as it has proven to be in a rural setting.”
Local variances are also colouring demand for Marley’s products.
Demand for the Twist rainwater diverter for example blossomed thanks to Auckland’s water crisis and with retailers like Mitre 10 and Bunnings now selling a lot of smaller urban tanks.
Meanwhile in the Capital Wellington Council requires residents to have an emergency supply of water in a small tank because
of the earthquake zoning and risk to infrastructure, so Marley’s Twist product allows residents to capture partial flow from a single downpipe and divert it to a small tank.
“It’s a great way for homeowners in urban areas to easily
utilise rainwater and, at the same time, reduce pressure on infrastructure,” says Marley’s ambassador, adding that placing a Curve above it ensures the bulk of debris is removed before water hits the Twist and the tank.”
