2021’s top landscapes and landscapers revealed
Category, photo below left), with special feature awards going to HEB Construction for its entry Maungawhau / Mt Eden Tihi Boardwalk and Natural Habitats Landscapes for its entry Westfield Newmarket Greenwalls.
The 2021 People’s Choice Award was awarded to Christchurch business Onlandscapes for its 40 Thorrington Road entry (photo below right).
Another part of this annual festival of landscaping is the Prebble Seeds Young Landscaper of the Year Award, which this year has gone to Tama Ritter (photo far left), with Outstanding Achievement awards to Hayden Parker (Leadership) and Ben Dyson (Excellence Innovation and PlaceMakers Profile/Construction).
Tama is Ops Manager at Queenstown landscaping company Southern Landmarx, whose Directors, Jaye and Joe Nutting, paid tribute to the “hard work and determination” shown by Tama in winning the national title: “We’re all extremely proud of him after he came
to us seven years ago knowing nothing about landscaping, but he’s worked his way up from an apprentice to the top.”

HUMPHREYS LANDSCAPING TOOK out the top Landscape of the Year 2021 award
in this year’s Landscapes of Distinction Awards in March, for its Herne Bay House entry (top photos), which also garnered several gold medals.
The annual awards, hosted by industry body Registered Master Landscapers New Zealand, attracted a record number of entries, says Chief Executive Officer, Janine Scott: “We are thrilled by the level
of interest this year, and pleased to see so many new entrants. In total, we received nearly 90 entries, which is 50% up on last year.
“We are also seeing an increase in the quality, scope, and uniqueness of the entries being submitted.
“Our industry is in good heart despite the challenges of the times and that
is a tribute to the dedication and high standards of our members.”
The judges called the top award- winning Herne Bay House “a triumph
of engineering, construction,
landscape technology, design, and
plant management” and that it “truly demonstrates a high level of landscape design, engineering and technology, along with masterful gardening.”
In addition to the supreme Landscape of the Year award, this year’s premier award winners included Diva Landscapes’ entry for Arrowtown’s Lodge at the Hills (Garden Maintenance/Management
