Misery of Motherhood
- Bibi Rukayya
BA (Hons.) in Contemporary Eng Studies (Lingnan University)- year 2
She was pregnant again.
And this was always a tough journey for her heart and brain. She questioned, “Why do I always have to go through this pain?”
Although it is the 21st Century that we are currently living in, her in-laws’ thinking was still worse than a bin.
All she ever dreamt of was a healthy child
but maybe among all these creatures, it was a thought too wild. Why was a mother forced to murder her baby? Because it wasn’t a boy maybe...
Her husband argued, “She could never be the heir!”
But she begged, “We should not care...”
Tears streamed down her cheeks like a river,
because the heartless father was ready to sliver.
And now, she is constantly pleading to Jesus
as he is the only one who could please us.
She doesn’t want her second pregnancy to end as well... Which is why she beseeched Jesus, “Please, cast a spell!”
