The next morning, beautiful, yellow curtains illuminated, bringing life to darkness. It reminded me
of the love of my life resting beside me. Her arm around my waist, her face full of content. I wanted to caress her soft face, but... wait...
Where are my arms? Why can’t I feel my legs as well? Don’t I have a neck to look at myself? Wait... What am I really?
Feeling befuddled, I tried to wiggle my body to leave the bed quietly, as I didn’t want to wake Angela up. Landed on the floor, my little prolegs ran quickly for the mirror. No, no, no. Am I living in a night- mare?
As I finally approached the mirror, all I could see was a yellow and black figure with antennas.
I was transformed into a caterpillar!
The reflection trembled along with me in agitation, the figure was too horrific to watch. Not only was I terrified of my new body, but I was also alarmed by her reaction to my sudden transformation. Will she love me less in my new form?
Just then, she sighed, giving me a signal that she was about to wake up. What am I going to do? With panic, I immediately hid into the sky-blue blanket, unprepared by my lover’s reaction. After a while, she let out a loud yawn and stretched her arms, leaving a ruffle towards the blanket.
“Cherry, where are-”
“Don’t look at me, Angela!” I interrupted without hesitation. “You’ll be panic-stricken once you see me.”
“Cherry,” Caressing my back, she continued. “What’s going on? Did I do something wro-” “It’s not your fault.” I heckled again, timidly. “You’ll run away after you look at me.”
“No. Not until you tell me what’s going on.” She responded firmly.
Silence dawned upon us, until it was interrupted by a soft sigh.
“It’s okay, Cherry. Once you’re ready, I’ll always be here to listen. Now, I’m going to make some bre-”
Without any delay, I finally wiggled myself away from the blanket, revealing my grotesque body with discomfort.
“There, it’s me.” Remaining my eyes closed, I mumbled.
