Just  like  the  type  of  writing  text,  essay  descriptions  have  several


                  characteristics, including:

                 •  Description of the use of sensory language


                 •  Diverse, clear and direct details


                 •  Tend to use figurative language such as similes, hyperbolas, metaphors,

                     symbolism and personification.


                 •  Shows  rather  than  explains  through  the  use  of  active  verbs  and


                     appropriate modifiers

                 •  Use clear and concise language


                 •  End with a clear impression to the reader


                         In addition to the characteristics of text descriptions, good description


                  categorization by looking at the following things:

                   a.  A good text description should contain lots of clear sensory detail that


                       displays an image and appeals to the reader's senses of sight, hearing,

                       touch,  smell,  taste  and  touch  according  to  the  text.  The  essay


                       description is also a description of the feelings of a person, place or thing


                       that the author displays.


                   b.  Good text descriptions often use figurative language such as analogies,

                       similes, and metaphors to help embed an image in the reader's mind.


                   c.  Good  text  descriptions  use  appropriate  language.  In  general,


                       adjectives,  nouns  and  passive  verbs  do  not  have  a  good  place  in  a

                       descriptive text. Use specific adjectives and strong nouns and verbs to


                       provide vivid images that will be drawn in the reader's mind.
