Being overly shy or too self-absorbed are both result of the
type of thinking demonstrated by the two characters in the story. By changing or modifying their thinking, the story characters, (and all of us) will be able to deal more effectively with our ever- changing world.
We are not controlled by an unchangeable personality but rather by a repertoire of beliefs that can be subjected to our control. This control can be seen as self-determination or self-efficacy and in this story, we say that it is our personal cognitive self-control (Our Good Thinking Self-Talk).
It is a skill that was not available to Tooshy and Hushup.
