A BRIEF REMINDER
It is that time of year again, when we hear the words “HURRICANE SEASON”. In Southeast Louisiana, this lately seems to be more of a game of “Let’s see how wrong the forecast path is this time”, instead of “Let’s make sure we are fully prepared when it actually happens.”
We’ve been lucky lately, but this does not reduce the dangers any hurricane presents. We are constantly reminded of “the worst”, and the simplest way to avoid “the worst” is to take the warnings seriously and to be prepared.
PLAY IT SAFE! That’s the best way to be ready to play for fun after the dangers pass.
OTHER WEATHER THREATS
The recent heavy rains brought us unusual and unpredictable street flooding. Despite all previous experience and repeated warnings, there was a least one death attributed to trying to drive through deeper water. The repeated advisories can all be simply summarized: it is better to get where you are going late than to risk your life and those of others. Wait until it is clearly safe.
Following the rains, we are now experiencing an earlier extended period of potentially dangerous heat conditions. Whether younger or older, it is essential to manage the risks. As usual, the recommendations are well known. Adjust your activities to meet the conditions. Limit outside work to cooler periods of morning and evening wherever possible.
HYDRATE! This means non-caffeinated liquids, primarily water, fruit juices, and “sports drinks” containing essential elements to replace those being lost. The essential ingredient is WATER. Caution and common sense! Don’tt over-stress or over-heat your body.

CAMERA UPDATE: WE’VE BEEN BUSY
So far this year, SECPID has replaced the two cameras at the Elementary School site and added two new locations. We expect to add two more locations this year.
The two new installations gave us the opportunity to expand our Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the City/Parish. Rather than paying utility companies for new meter installations, including some very expensive underground wiring, we were able to tie directly to power supplies for pumping stations for a fixed annual fee. We avoided up to $5,000 in electrical installation costs, and provides a power supply which is NOT affected by utility company outages.
As more developments are built around us, this gives us the opportunity to work with developers for the mutual benefit and protection of our residents and theirs. SECPID has participated in several meetings with developers, working to provide understanding of security issues and develop mutually beneficial solutions.
PLEASE JOIN US AT OUR NEXT MEETING, 6:30PM TUESDAY, JULY 16, AT THE JONES CREEK LIBRARY.
Whether you are already paying the annual fee or not, please consider additional support for SECPID’s activities, which support and promote the value of Shenandoah Estates to its residents. Voluntary contributions may be mailed or given to any Commissioner. Checks can be made out to SECPID, and our mailing address is:
