Page 25 - Tree of Happiness
P. 25
In the story, the Queen agreed to complete the “tasks” given her by the Elf. The Queen assembled her Advisors to tell them of her plan to take on the first task assigned by the Elf, building the great road. Her Advisors think that this is a terrible plan and threaten to quit or overthrow her if she goes through with the plan. The Queen keeps in mind what the Elf told her. Because of her desire to enter the Tree of Happiness, she stands firm. She overrules her advisors and starts the road.
It would be nice if all those who are important to us, family, friends, classmates, would support us when we choose to do difficult things that are good for us, like studying for a test rather than going out to play.
Unfortunately, that frequently is not the case. you have to learn that when your decision is a good decision, that is, it is based in your best interest, without purposely harming others, you should stick with it. This is very difficult for many of us to do, even as adults. Children who develop the ability to choose what is best for them and stick with it, are able to be successful in school, say no to drugs and choose to be with nice friends, even without the availability or support of adults.
The road the Queen must build is difficult and expensive but she sticks with the task. Upon its completion, she is praised by the workers and is proud of the “Queen’s Road.” She does not linger however and announces that there is another project that they must start.
