All of the “fence cats” went up to Carmen and told her that she had done really well for her first time “singing”. Carlo told her that if she would like to join them, they are on the fence every Friday night at first dark. As I started to leave, Carmen thanked me for the day. I asked her, “What did I do.”
“You helped me see that I was making myself scared of things that should not make me afraid. Next time I come up to a puddle or something that would normally scare me, I'm going to walk right through it.
Next time I have something that will take time to learn, like tree climbing, I will tell myself that if others can do it so can I, even it does take some time. Next time I make myself scared about being embarrassed I will tell myself to just do my best and that is all I can do.”
I left the “fence cats” singing to Carlo and Carmen. It seems that this neighborhood has lost another one of their “scaredy cats”.
