this year to discuss what we did last year that worked and what else we can do for next year to increase the membership. The Shenandoah Homeowners Association dues remain at $30 per year. Please send in your dues, or you can pay them via PayPal on the website. (shawebwatch.com).
Security Report – Tom reported that the patrol stats for August will be published in the Newswatch. He reported that everything is signed and approved for the purchase of our radar gun. We are in the process of purchasing the item. It will go directly to the Patrol Division of the Sheriff’s Office and will be transferred directly to the Kleinpeter Substation. Tom also reported that we will again add a total of 30 patrol hours in November and December this year. It is undecided at this time exactly how that number will be divided between the two months. He also reported that the camera at Cross Gates/Rose Garden/Confederate is now complete and is currently up and running. Shenandoah Elementary School also has 2 new cameras that are now up and running. Two camera sites have already been selected for installation in 2020, and a third one may be able to be completed, as well. The National Day Out Against Crime will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 12:00-3:00 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. The next SECPID meeting will be held September 17 at 6:30 at the Jones Creek Library.
Beautification Report –Kevin - The “YARD OF THE MONTH” in Shenandoah Estates for October is 16526 Missionary Ridge. They will receive a $25 gift certificate from Cleggs Nursery. Congratulations! Residents are reminded that they can nominate yards for “Yard of the Month” on the website.
Architecture Report -Ken received a report of overgrown ditches on Confederate. He called 311 to report it, but someone had already reported it. Ken got the ticket number and is waiting to hear back from the city regarding the status. A house on Stones River with very high backyard growth has
been reported several times. Ken contacted the Mayor’s Office for assistance in resolving the issue. Recent communication indicated the problem was addressed in Blight Court, and situation will be corrected. A house on Malvern Hill with overgrown shrubbery, and a house on Confederate with overgrown lawn/shrubbery, boarded-up window, and tarp on the roof, have been reported to the city. Tom reported that we have still not received a response about the house on Shenandoah Ave with the black water pool which was previously reported.
Newswatch/Website Report – Ed reported that the website is getting a lot of activity. 2856 individual users accessed the website in August. The largest month before that was March. Ed also reported that, effective in October, the Newswatch will grow to 4 additional pages. Two will be for SHA content, and the other two will be for advertising. Ed will send email blasts this week to remind residents to attend the Annual Meeting next Monday.
Entrance Sign Committee Report –Sandy and Don reported that the damaged wall on the South lot has been removed, along with the ligustrum bushes. The bushes on behind the wall on the North lot will be removed in the next few days. We are working on getting a contract form written up for the actual construction of the new sign. We spent $925.00 to grind down the roots of the bushes and to put 2 loads of dirt to fill the holes where they were. He noted that the dirt will need to settle a while before we begin digging for the foundation of the new sign. Don noted that he anticipates a total of 90 days to complete the project once the construction starts. Sandy reported that there may be a placement issue with the sign due to a 5-foot servitude for AT&T to give access to the telephone box. He will check to make sure there are no underground cables in the servitude, and he will discuss with AT&T the possibility of moving the servitude to the east side of the lot so it won’t be in the way of building the new sign.
Unfinished Business –
Annual Meeting – The Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, September 16 at the Jones Creek Library. It will start with a “meet and greet” at 6:30, and the meeting will start at 7:00. Refreshments will be served. $300 has been allocated for expenses for this meeting. The board positions currently held by Don, Eileen, Sandra, Kevin, and Ray are up for re-election. Sandra has chosen not to run for another term. The election to fill these board positions will take place at the Annual Meeting. Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office and the St. George Fire Department will be guest speakers at the meeting.
New Business -
Re-zoning Request –Henry reported that a re-zoning request has been filed with the Planning and Zoning Commission for the property located at 16565 George O’Neal Rd. They want to change the zoning from C1 to CAB2 in order to put a bar/lounge on the property next door to the former Kabob’s Restaurant. Other subdivisions are asking SHA to join them in objecting to this request on the grounds that it is too close to many residential subdivisions in the area. Tom made a motion, and JC seconded, that the SHA officially objects to the re-zoning of this property. The motion passed.
The next monthly business meeting of the Shenandoah Homeowners Association Ltd. will be on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Jones
