Michael George “Bear” – Born January 31, 1974 in Boynton Beach, Fl.
Michael is a U.S. Representative for Florida’s 6th Congressional district. He is a member of the
Republican Party. Michael is divorced and has a daughter named Anderson.

Michael graduated with honors in 1996 and earned a BA Degree in International Studies at Virginia Military Academy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army National Guard.
For nearly 22 years he has served as an Army Special Forces officer with a rank of Lt. Co., while earning numerous recognitions for valor, including four Bronze Stars.
A US Army National Guard Special Forces officer, he is a veteran of the War in Afghanistan and is the first Green Beret ever elected to the United States Congress. Before his election to Congress, Michael served in a senior role at The Pentagon as Director for Afghanistan policy within the Office of the Secretary of Defense, served as senior advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney for South Asia and Counterterrorism in the George W. Busch Administration. He was formerly a FOX News Channel contributor, providing expert commentary on foreign policy and defense issues and he also has and still appears frequently on FOX, CNN, MSNBC, BBC World News and PBS Frontline.
Michael authored the book “Warrior Diplomat”. In Warrior Diplomat: A Green Beret’s Battles from Washington to Afghanistan, Michael shares his unique firsthand experiences, revealing the sights, sounds, emotions and complexities involved in the war in Afghanistan. Michael also highlights the policy issues that have plagued the war effort throughout the past decade, from the drug trade, to civilian casualties, to a lack of resources in comparison to Iraq, to the overall strategy. At the same time, he points out that stabilizing Afghanistan and the region remains crucial to national security and that a long-term commitment along the lines of South Korea or Germany is imperative if America is to remain secure.
