After leaving the Navy and moving back to Jacksonville, Uncle George was a manager of Honda, a local motorcycle dealership. He was also a member of American Legion Post 137.
1975: September 1975, was the last time Daddy saw Uncle George. Uncle George and Aunt Mary, Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Clifton and Aunt Gin and Uncle Blue had come to Lakeland to be with Daddy and Ruth when Kenny died. Uncle Ed was not there. It would be the last time the siblings were together because Uncle George died 2 months later on November 1, 1975.
Even though it was a very sad time, I remember them all being supportive and upbeat for Daddy and Ruth. It was a great comfort for him to have them there, especially Uncle George. There was concern for Uncle George because he had a lot of questions about death and how Daddy and Ruth, although devastated about losing Kenny, had peace. There was a lot of “witnessing” to Uncle George going on during this time from his brother and sisters. They all felt that there was a sense of peace for Uncle George when he and Aunt Mary headed back to Jacksonville. He had been shown the plan of salvation and had accepted it. They felt certain that he was in a good place within his beliefs when he died.
I took these pictures, not realizing at the time that it would be the last time Uncle George would see Daddy, Aunt Gin and Aunt Charlotte.
Uncle George was 50 years old when he died November 1, 1975. He is buried in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Aunt Mary was 78 years old when she died Mach 6, 2009. She had retired from Moyer Marble and Tile Company. She is buried in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery alongside Uncle George.
