P. 29

Worksheet
This worksheet page points out the Not OK emotions of feeling hateful, arrogant or vindictive when engaging in Unicorn Behavior. Children will say that they were “just trying to be funny” or that they “did not know that they would get upset.” And to some extent, they are telling the truth. It may be difficult or confusing to identify the motivation (stinky thinking) that precedes these emotions and then label them.
Children that engage in this type of behavior don’t have a lot of empathy with others. They may not realize or minimize the impact such behavior has on others. You may need to explain how others feel when they are the victims of this type of behavior. By the same token, you can also explain that you can only be a true victim of unicorn behavior, if you “participate.” As difficult as it may be, ignoring the Unicorn and their friends is really the best defense against this type of behavior continuing.
1. When a unicorn made fun of another, they were probably thinking, “Look at that dummy. He is so clumsy, I will call him a “Stumbling Stallion” and everyone will get a big laugh.” What type of thinking is that?
Stinky Thinking
2. When you make fun of or ridicule someone, how do you think they feel?
