WORKSHEET
On this page, Cosmos talks about how in the animal world, you can have some very severe consequences for rule breaking. But in the human world, the consequences are not so severe and it is easy to break rules, without considering the long-term consequences. He also talks about how you can think that you are too smart to have to obey rules.
Most criminals think that they will never get caught when they break the rules. Unfortunately, in our non-perfect world, rule breakers don’t always have to suffer negative consequences for their behavior. Just as Cosmos points out in the questions, as they get older, our young Rule Breakers will get increasing angry and frustrated with the realities of a rule managed world and may choose to drop out... of school and perhaps even worst.
1. If you tell yourself, “I don’t have to study, I am too smart and have too many other things to do,” you are breaking the rule about “Doing homework.” What type of thinking are you having?

2. If you continue to break this rule, you will make poor grades and you will get angry and tell yourself, “The teacher is just being mean to me.” What type of emotions will that cause?
Not OK Emotions
3. As you get older, school will become even more difficult and you may drop out of school. What type of behavior is that?
