Unfortunately, some children have strong irrational beliefs regarding rules and it will be hard to get them to change their rule breaking behavior. In those situations you should remember “Shaping” (getting closer and closer to the desired thinking/ behavior) and reward any indication of an improvement in their Stinky Thinking.
Don’t hesitate to go through the Exercise yourself and explain rules to your children. Some rules may have a weak basis in Good Thinking but that provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate the necessity of obeying even weak rules.
Rewarding rule compliance rather than punishing rule non- compliance may take a little more work on your part. But if someone takes responsibility for their own personal rule compliance you will have more opportunity to do other things rather than monitor rules
