So you will refuse to eat things like collard greens or lettuce or kale. You might like them but you won’t know that because you will never try them. You may like spinach cooked differently but you will never know that because you refuse to try it. You say, “I just don’t like any kind of spinach.”
Your life is now simpler... no green leafy vegetables for you. And you know what? You can live your life pretty well without them. So what is the big deal? The big deal is that you can do the same thing with other vegetables and foods and pretty soon you have a very limited diet that is not good for you.
More importantly, you can do the same thing with school subjects as in, “I just can’t do math so why try.” You can do the same thing with friends as in, “He is friends with Joey and I can’t stand anyone who likes Joey.” You can also do the same thing with teachers: “She scolded me for talking too much in class and I will hate her forever.”
Now you know from reading the story of The Black and White Kingdom that those people did not have to worry about making decisions. Everything was already “figured out” for them. If fruit was white, it was ripe. If black, it was not ripe. If people appeared black, then they were your friend. If people appeared white, then they were not your friend. It was the same with all things and situations. It made life very simple. Decisions could be made very easily.
