But once the King learned to use the Glasses, he saw that many who said that they liked the Queen’s cooking were lying and just trying to get him to like them.
Just as important, those who said that they did not like the Queen’s cooking would have appeared white (not friends
before the Glasses. However, with the Glasses, the King realized that just because they did not like the Queens’s cooking did not necessarily mean that they were no longer his friends.
The King found this confusing and difficult to understand at first. It took him a lot of practice to learn how to see things, situations and people as they are in reality and not how he supposed that they should or must be. As the Peddler told him, “Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean that they don’t like you. It only means that they disagree with you.”
Once the King learned to use the Glasses, he was very pleased with them. He was able to make better decisions and life was much more interesting. He was very willing to let everyone in the kingdom have a pair.
But then many of those given the glasses complained and wanted to give them back. The King was amazed and confused. He told them that without the Glasses, “You will make bad choices, dislike things and people you shouldn’t and trust others who do not have your best interest at heart. I can not understand why you would not want this great gift of wisdom.”
