Cosmos Crow here, to tell you a story about wisdom and how some people don’t want it. During one of my trips, I landed on the wagon of a peddler who was just entering a kingdom known as the “Black and White Kingdom.” It was known by this name because everything was either black or white.
It was possible to know all you needed to know about something or someone by its color. In this kingdom, if a fruit was white it was ripe but if it was black it was not ripe. If the water was black it was good to drink but if it was white it was foul. If a person was your friend he was black but if he ever did anything to harm you or if he lied to you or made you angry, he would change in color from black to white and you knew he was no longer your friend.
Everything and every person in the kingdom was like this and it was quite convenient once you learned what the colors meant in a particular context or situation. This was of course, taught to everyone as a young child. “Fruit is ripe when it’s white. If its black, put it back,” went the
childhood rhyme.
On the day I was resting on the Peddler’s wagon, we came into town and I overheard him ask to speak with the King. At first the King refused, saying he was too busy to visit with some stranger who had come to the kingdom to sell goodness knows what.
