I am sure that you noticed that the second boy (Sad Boy) did not handle the missed ball situation very well either. However, instead of blaming the others, he blamed himself.
He told himself that missing the ball was his fault and he was going to cause the team to lose.
Do you think that what he was telling himself was correct? I certainly don’t. Sure, he missed the ball but so what. I have watched grown people play on this same field and they miss the ball a lot of the time.
That is just the way it goes. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. If you do your best that is all you can do. But Sad Boy does not think that way.
When things don’t go the way he wants them to go, he tells himself that it is just too terrible. Now, you and I know that he is not correct in his thinking and that it is Stinky Thinking.
