After retiring from music in the early 1980s, I became a concert promoter and handled bookings for top-selling groups such as Alabama and the Beach Boys. Along the way I started acquiring and selling celebrity collectibles, including vehicles owned by actress Marilyn Monroe and comedian Redd Foxx.
Through it all, I did pretty well for myself and lived a life almost unimaginable today as a retired businessman. It was several decades of well-lived years complete with plenty of outrageous times, many celebrity friends, some infamous acquaintances and an endless collection of stories that still bring amazement to my family and friends.
Realizing it would be a shame not to share some of the highs and lows of an entertaining and rewarding life, this is my story or at least the portions that can be published without embarrassing any of my old buddies.
Usually these types of stories come directly from the famous or the people they appoint to recall the past glory and infamy, but my story is the recounting of someone who shared the same stage with many stars and also saw what went on when the lights went out. It’s the tale of someone who successfully survived to ride the up and down sway of a life in show business. As you go through this life of mine and share the memories and laughs, remember this: if I say I’ve been there and done that, believe me, I have.
It doesn’t take long to figure out that the entertainment business is like many other businesses in some respects. Having said that, I can certainly tell you more perks are given to entertainers. When you
