haven’t seen a country yet that would offer an opportunity for a young man raised in Miller County, Missouri in adverse conditions but in a house full of love to succeed. The thing I learned quickly was that if I want to succeed, I need to go after it, it won’t come to me and I have to be really on the side of yes, not no. I went after the successes I had – they didn’t come to me.
My experiences in the music business were responsible for my success in several unrelated companies. The key was that I learned how to promote myself and convince people the only way to win is to let everyone know what I’m doing and how they can benefit from my actions. I learned very early in the entertainment business that if I go on stage, I’d better think I’m good because if I don’t, the audience probably won’t think so either. Believe me, they can tell and confidence, or the lack of it, will be the decisive factor. I’ve seen people with a lot of talent literally fail because of a lack of confidence. Myself, I don’t think I was a super-talented guy, but I had faith that I could succeed and I’m here to tell you it worked and I don’t mean that in a conceited way by any means. It’s just being said so it might help someone else. Think positive and just remember that it’s not the fall, it’s getting back up that matters.
