I met Gary in my hometown of Dickinson, North Dakota at The Holiday Inn. At a young age, I had experienced singing with a couple of local weekend bands. After meeting and singing with Gary’s band, I was eager with eyes wide open to hit the road singing full time.
Gary taught me a lot about the real music business and not just the glitz and glamour of it all that you see in the movies. It was the real deal. I absorbed it all and learned there was a lot of hard work and even sometimes sacrifice. Being away from family and living out of a suitcase isn’t appealing to everybody. I didn’t mind it because I was getting to see places I had never been to and received a lot of attention too. Mostly I just loved singing both lead and harmony.
When we played in Gary’s hometown of Sedalia, Missouri, I would sometimes stay at his house. Debbie was always great to me and I felt like we were all family. I also became close to the band members as we spent many hours on the bus together. I got to meet some celebrities through him as well when we played in Sedalia during the Missouri State Fair. Our regular hometown gig was at The State Fair Motor Inn and occasionally a star or two would
