Page 6 - Whispering Squirrels
P. 6
Not long after the situation with the “Angry Squirrel,” I noticed another squirrel approaching the whispering squirrels. And to my amazement, the “Whispering Squirrels” did the same thing again. As the second squirrel approached them, they stopped whispering. Just after he passed them, they laughed quietly and started whispering again. Well, I figured we would have another angry squirrel to deal with but I was wrong.
This second squirrel got all upset and very sad. I could tell by the way he walked down the tree that he was embarrassed and his feelings were hurt. In fact, he would not greet the other squirrels as they went past him, even if they said hello. He just went around looking sad and embarrassed and would not have anything to do with anyone else. I watched him for much of the day and he remained sad.
Finally, he went to a tree in the far edge of this group of squirrel’s territory and sat on a branch all by himself. Naturally, I named him the “Sad Squirrel.”
“Sad Squirrel” had climbed to the top of that tree only a few minutes before I noticed another squirrel going toward the “Whispering Squirrels.” They were still whispering and I figured we would have either another angry or another sad squirrel... but I was wrong.
