We animals don’t have that option. We must pay attention and learn from uncomfortable situations and that is just what happened in the case of the “Whispering Squirrels.”
It did not go unnoticed that the “Angry Squirrel” was going around being ugly to everyone. Nor did it go unnoticed that the “Sad Squirrel” was moping around at the top of a distant tree. The leader of this group of squirrels was wise in the way of Stinky Thinking and decided to let this situation go on until the time was right to do some teaching.
The leader called all of them together for a “Confab” (which is when they all get together to discuss something). She called the meeting to order and then asked the squirrel I called the “Angry Squirrel” to come forward. I was watching from a tree and I could see that the squirrel still looked angry.
The leader asked him, “What happened today?” “Those two (he pointed toward the “Whispering Squirrels”) were talking about me and making fun of me and laughing at me.” “Is that why you have been mean to everyone today,” asked the leader. “Yes” he replied, “I could not help it. They made me mad.” “I see,” said the leader.
Then she called the “Sad Squirrel” to the front of the group. “I noticed that you have been sad all day and have not been friendly or helpful to others,” said the leader.
