Cosmos Crow here again. Now let’s spend some time thinking about what happened in the story, and what you can learn from the story. First, all three boys had the same thing happen to them; they were all stung by a hornet. Second, we saw that each of them felt and reacted differently.
This story and others in this series, will help you understand why we feel and act the way we do, and how to control and change those feelings and behaviors.
Let’s talk about the "ABCs" of our lives.
(A) Activating event or experience (the hornet sting)
This can be anything from a test in school to someone calling you a name.
(B) Your Beliefs about the event or experience (the sting “A”) What are you thinking (telling yourself) about what has just happened? Is it GOOD THINKING (logical and rational) or STINKY THINKING (foolish or mean)?
(C) The Consequences of your thinking (“B”), your emotions and behavior. Are your emotions OK (happy or neutral) or Not OK (anger, fear, embarrassment)? Are your behaviors Thumbs Up, (appropriate for the situation)? Or, are your behaviors Thumbs Down, (an over reaction or they get you into trouble)?
