Being different is difficult. Now I know that sounds funny but it is true. I have noticed that all of us, crows and people, feel uncomfortable around something or someone unusual or different.
I have noticed that dogs (who are obviously not as smart as crows), will get mighty upset and start growling and barking when they see a garbage bag on the curb while going for a walk with their owner. The dog, who goes on this same walk everyday, does not recognize this strange thing (garbage bag) there on the curb. But today there it is (of course it is garbage pickup day) and that is different. To a dog, that means scary, so he barks and growls. The bag is on the curb one day each week but the dog forgets and every week he gets all upset again.
In our story, Squiggy was “different” because he did not want to eat the chocolate. He was not trying to get the others to notice him by being different. He just didn't like chocolate. You will find a lot of your friends and classmate may act like the squirrels in the story when you or someone else chooses to be different. Now you will have to decide if this being “different” is based on Good or Stinky Thinking and that should determine how you react to this “being different.”
