Cosmos Talks to Parents
When I. M. would try something new, difficult, boring or scary, he would get the “I AM TRYING” Medal and keep it for the wholeday. HedidnotgettheMetaleverytimehetried something but he got it fairly often and he made himself feel good by telling himself “I got the Trying Medal today and that was great.” He did not have to do a task perfectly.
He did not even have to not be afraid of the task. He just had to try. As time went on and he tried and tried and he got better and better. He was able to learn things he did not think he would ever understand because he would tell himself, “I am just trying and I will understand it some day,” which eliminates a lot of pressure and anxiety.
He was able to learn to not get upset when others made fun of him because he would tell himself, “I am trying and that is all I need to do.”
He was even able to make himself do thing that were scary because he would tell himself, “All I have to do is try.” The more he tried, the easier everything became and your child can experience the same if they just TRY.
