This challenging your Stinky Thinking happens when you say to yourself, “Is what I am thinking making any sense?” If not, what other way could I think about a situation. That was what Cosmos was showing the Young Girl. Cosmos told her that it is possible that nothing bad would happen to the Rabbit if she changed the garden. In fact, the Rabbit might be better off. When confronted with situations like the Rabbit, your emotional reaction of guilt will
often cause you to behave in ways that are not in your best
interest. Then you do and say things you regret later. You then will be angry with yourself for being “weak,” and this will cause more negative emotions.
When talking about the Stinky Thinking of the Owl, Cosmos told the Young Girl, “What makes him so smart. He doesn’t know if the plants will die and he surely doesn’t know if you are smart enough to grow the new plants.” This example of challenging her Stinky Thinking should seem obvious. There is a very old saying that “It is better to have tried and failed than to never have tried .” Long ago, people understood that our Stinky Thinking can keep us from being successful more quickly and surely than any real barrier or problem.
Cosmos also talked to her about the Bull. “What about the Bull? What could he really do? He is behind a fence and even if he could knock it down, his Farmer would have to come and get him and then build you a new fence the Bull could not knock down.” Fear and anxiety will cause you to make bad decisions or not make any decision at all. You “freeze in your tracks,” and are not able to decide what you should do. The sooner you learn the coping skills needed to deal effectively (not foolishly) with fearful situations, the better.
