WHAT DO YOU SAY / HOW DO YOU SAY IT
The first step in addressing Peer Pressure is to recognize the irrational beliefs (Stinky Thinking) associated with manipulation (Peer Pressure). If you understand that someone is trying to manipulate you and your irrational beliefs make it possible for them to succeed, you move on to step two, what do you say / how do you say it.
WHAT DO YOU SAY
This exercise gives you the opportunity to learn how to deal with others’ attempts to manipulate you. If someone wants you to do something that you don’t want to do to, how should you react? If you are not sure what you should do, ask another child to play the role of one of the story characters.
For example: Rabbit...”Oh please let me copy your homework, I just did not have time to do mine and I will get in trouble. I promise no one will know.”
You can:
1. Say, “No” and just walk away.
2. Say, “Sorry I can’t help you. I won’t let you copy.”
3. Say, “I am your friend but copying my homework is not going
to help you learn, so I can’t let you copy mine.”
