You can do the same thing with examples of behaviors of the other characters, the Owl and Bull. You can think about the character and practice the words to use in dealing with the peer pressure. That is the “what to say” part. Next is the “how to say it .”
HOW DO YOU SAY IT
There is an appropriate way to say “No” or “I don’t want to" You don’t yell it, you don’t whisper it and you don’t whine it. You just say it firmly, in a normal tone of voice, while maintaining eye contact.
Even as adults we may have trouble with the, “How to say it.” If you are scared, you may say it quietly with your face turned way. If angry, you may say it loud with your fists doubled up. This gives the wrong message. It says “I may say no now but when I calm down, I will say yes.” A calm “No” said while looking directly at the other person, leaves no room for them to come back later and try again.
When you read about dealing with peer pressure, it may sound easy but it is not and never will be easy. However, if you practice dealing with it effectively now, it will become easier and you can say, “I know exactly what I will have in my garden next year!”
