Page 5 - SB-Collard Green Garden
P. 5
The young girl followed the directions on the map, walking down a long, dusty road. She passed many small farms with neat houses with large gardens.
She remarked to herself that this must be very good soil because all the plants in the gardens were so large and healthy.
She noticed that the tomatoes, both red and green, were as large as softballs. The corn was very tall and waved gently in the breeze. She noticed rows and rows of peas. There were green peas and black-eyed peas and purple hull peas. She remarked to herself, “There will be plenty to eat tonight.”
By midday she reached the farm that now belonged to her. The yard was overgrown with weeds and the front porch looked as if it had not seen a broom in quite some time. The front door opened with a rusty squeak. She made a mental note to find an oil can as soon as possible.
Well, to tell you the truth, up to this point my stay in this little town had been kind of boring. But this little girl was about to start off on an adventure, so I decided to stick around for a while to see how things went.
