Section: Time Away From Work Vacation Policy
Policy
Regular full-time employees begin earning vacation leave on the date of employment; however, no paid vacation days will be granted until the third month of employment is completed. Each employee will accrue 3.08 leave hours per pay period equivalent to 80 hrs per year. You may carry over (40 hrs.) per calendar year. You may not use more than 2 weeks (80 hrs.) at one given time.
Procedure
All employees are required to submit a written request for vacation leave at least 2 weeks prior to the date they wish their vacation to begin. This request should be submitted in writing to the department supervisor/manager, who will forward it to the human resources department for approval. Supervisors/managers will resolve conflicting leave requests within a department by considering factors such as:
Departmental staffing needs
Seniority
Length of desired vacation
Elapsed time since employee’s last 5-day (or longer) vacation
Regular Full-time Employees
Regular full-time employees are permitted 2 weeks paid vacation per employment year. The department manager must approve the use of leave without pay to extend a vacation.
Vacation Buy-back Policy
To be eligible to sell back your vacation you must be a CORE employee with more than 40 hours of vacation. Vacation hours can be sold back once a year prior to your anniversary date. There is no cap for selling back vacation hours. You must keep 40 hours of vacation on the books. Vacation will be paid at the employee’s rate at the time it was accrued.
Employees with leave balances will not be able to turn in leave without pay unless authorized by a supervisor.
All leave sold back is considered supplemental income by the IRS and will be taxed at the supplemental rate of 25%.
