Security Report – Tom Hirschey – Tom noted an error in the Newswatch for the SECPID stats. It was reported that there were 113 narcotics stops; that should have been reported as 0 narcotics stops. A correction was sent in an e-mail blast and was corrected on the website.
Tom reported that the camera on Wildflower at Antioch is finished and operational. It consists of one pole with 2 cameras facing different directions. This camera will be jointly maintained by Shenandoah Estates, The Woodlands, and Lake at White Oak, but the other two subdivisions will contact Tom if they need information retrieved from the camera. The camera on Malvern Hill at Altus should be up and running by January. Three additional sites being considered for next year are Fleetwood at Antioch, Vicksburg at Shenandoah Ave., and Shenandoah Ave. at Antietam. We had 197 patrol hours in November, and we will have the same number in December. The patrol stats for November will be published in the Newswatch.
Architectural Report – Nothing to report.
Beautification Report – The Antioch entrance has been decorated for Christmas. A suggestion was made to start a Garden Club in Shenandoah to help maintain the areas around the signs. The “YARD OF THE MONTH” in Shenandoah Estates for January is 5845 Frederick. They will receive a $25 gift certificate from Cleggs Nursery. Congratulations! Residents are reminded that they can nominate yards for “Yard of the Month” on the website.
Entrance Sign Committee Report – Sandy Smith – Sandy and Don met with Craig from Newton Architects and talked to him about downsizing the concept design. They discussed making the sign smaller and shorter to reduce costs. Craig will do one more rendering.
Don reported that he has been in contact with our attorney about our lawsuit against Travelers Insurance regarding damages to the sign. Travelers found a contractor who could repair the sign for around $6800. We have already received more than that as a settlement from them. The driver who hit the sign has offered a separate settlement of $1500 as reparation. After legal fees and contingency, we will net $600 from this. Don reported that the Executive Committee had met and voted to accept this as final settlement from the driver and to withdraw our lawsuit against the insurance company.
Newswatch/Website Report – Ed Craig – Ed reported that the website hits increased 39.5% in 2018. The normal deadline for articles in the Newswatch is the 20th of each month in order to have it sent out by the 1st or 2nd of the month. But due to holidays, the
