Howard wanted his life to be easy and fun all of the time. He was unwilling to do what he needed to do. He preferred to take the time and trouble of hanging a barrel in a tree to gather nuts, rather than just gather the nuts like everyone else.
I am sure that you sometimes do the same thing with your school work and house cleaning. For you, that may cause you to get a bad grade or be punished at home.
For Howard, it meant little food for the winter. Howard’s Stinky Thinking during the spring, summer and fall, caused him to engage in a lot of Thumbs Down behavior in the winter. To get food, he had to expose himself to a lot of discomfort and dangers. In your world, if you think like Howard when you are young, you will have to expose yourself to a lot of discomfort and dangers as an adolescent and adult.
You may not think this is any big deal but remember, when I returned that next spring, Howard was nowhere to be found.
