In 1900 Colmore and Nancy lived in Utica and Colmore was employed for the railroad as a section laborer. The children living with them were Nancy’s daughter Matie Reed and Marshall, Pearl and Alvah Craig.
In 1910, Allen C and Nancy lived in Utica with their son Alvah. Colmore and Alvah both worked for the railroad.
Nancy died November 24, 1915 at the age of 65. Cause of death was Chronic Intestinal Nephritis (inflammation of the kidney – a/k/a Bright’s disease). She is buried at the New Chapel Cemetery in Watson. I have visited her grave site on two occasions.
Colmore married Lora Ludella (Brown) Cortney/Courtney on May 27, 1916 in Floyd County. Colmore was 59 years old and Lora was 41.
Lora was born August 3, 1872 or 1874 in Boone County, Indiana and she died January 6, 1936. There are various documents that state the difference in her age. Her death certificate says she was born in 1874 and Aunt Mildred’s birth certificate shows her born in 1874 but her headstone says 1872. Based on census dates, the year is 1874.
Census data shows that she was 14 when she married Jeremiah “Jerry” Courtney about 1889. She and Jerry had 7 children, of which 2 died shortly after birth and a son that died from colitis when he
was 1-1/2 years old.
