Shirley – Born December 27, 1928
Shirley was 19 years old when she married Wayne H Inman. They had 2 children, Teresa Ann (1948) and Cheryl Ann (1955) and moved to Sellersburg circa 1957. I went to school with Teresa and we were in the same grade. She married Larry G. Messina on September 29, 1967 and they have 3 daughters, Michelle Lee born August 29, 1971 and a set of twin girls born in June 1973. Cheryl married Stephen Craig Moser November 15, 1975 and they divorced one year later in November 1976. I do not know if Cheryl remarried, has children, etc.
Shirley still lives in her home on old US Hwy 60 in Sellersburg, her daughter Teresa lives in Sellersburg and daughter Cheryl lives in Jeffersonville.
Alice Marie – Born March 15, 1930 - Died May 8, 2002
Alice married Dean Ronald Shepherd May 7, 1949 and they had 2 children, Dean R, Shepherd, Jr. and Andy R. Shepherd. They divorced and Alice married Ernest Edward Seibel on January 22, 1973.
Alice was 72 years old when she died at home of congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, chronic valve disease and a contributory factor of severe emphysema.
Donald Craig – Born January 20, 1931 - Died August 25, 1969
Donald married twice divorced and mother of two, Patricia Marie Coslett, who was 2 years older than he. They had 1 child, Donna Mardis Patrick.
Donald was 39 years old when he was murdered in bed at his home in Jeffersonville. He was shot twice; once on the right side of his head behind the ear and once in the right side of his abdomen. According to news articles about the case, Donald and Patricia returned home after a weekend away. According to Patricia’s deposition and sworn statement, when they returned home at around 10:30 pm she noticed that a light was on which was unusual and something about a window being open. Donald told her not to worry that he had a gun and he proceeded to check out the house and found nothing amiss. Patricia left to go to her son’s house to pick up their daughter who had spent the weekend there. When she and her daughter returned home around 12:30 am the house was dark with no lights on. Donna ran in the house and immediately went to see her dad and found him shot and bleeding in bed.
The death was ruled a homicide, but no one was ever been charged for the murder. Most think his wife shot him but couldn’t prove it. Another theory – someone had broken into their home and was in the house when they returned home. Startled at their return, the perpetrator(s) hid in the house and when Patricia left to go pick up her daughter, that’s when Donald was murdered. The problem with this theory is that there was no sign of a struggle and there was nothing stolen from the home. Apparently, he was shot with his own gun and the gun was found by some fishermen 2 weeks later several miles from where the murder took place. The case baffled the police for many years but could not be solved.
Apparently, Aunt Charlotte was close to Donald because looking at old news articles, there were many references of Donald being with her. Also, he named his daughter Donna “Mardis”, which could have been after our grandmother Jean Mardis but since he never knew her, I suspect he named his daughter after Aunt Charlotte. Anyone that knows Aunt Charlotte knows that she welcomed everyone into her home. Her son Mark told me that the ONLY person he knew of her ever turning away from her home was Donald’s widow, Patricia. She had come to see Aunt Charlotte after the murder and was told to leave and that she was no longer welcome. That speaks volumes because Aunt Charlotte would never
