Page 22 - Injustice Collector
P. 22

These are all indications of injustice collecting, that is, holding on to negative memories and emotions and recalling them when a similar situation occurs. At one time in human history, this served a purpose. Life had a lot of dangers, from wild animals, to enemy tribes, to food that would make you sick. It was important to remember these situations, people, sounds that might signal danger. Then when anything similar occurred, you would be ready to fight or run or whatever action was needed to save yourself. But that was all before modern civilization. It was an effective coping tool for over 100,000 years but not anymore.
When someone calls you a name or makes fun of you, it is not the same as coming after you with a club or sword. But, you may react the same as if it were a life threat. You may store your memory of that insult (injustice collecting) so that any future remark made by that person causes the same intense reaction. This is totally inappropriate and will cause you problems.
It is important to remember that some people may be mean to you and that there are some situations that you should avoid. It is good to remember this and to react appropriately. The difference between reacting appropriately to a “threat” and on the other hand, collecting injustices, has to do with your evaluation of the particular situation and dealing with it effectively. This is better than what an injustice collector would do, which would be to recall past situations, use these images to generate intense emotions and then react inappropriately.
