                                                                                                                             THE IDEAL DECISION




                                                                                            Dear reader, I always tried to see the silver lining amidst adver-
                                                                                         sity, but it is not easy. It was like being on top of a sloping, humid
                                                                                         and slippery roof, trying to maintain balance and to oversee some-
                                                                                         thing nice in the horizon at the same time.

                                                                                            The will to win even when circumstances are not in favor must
                                                                                         not be lost, and I keep it with me to this day. Even when nobody
                                                                                         else believes in this will, someday it will prevail, and people will see
                                                                                         that adversity only helped to show the right way.

                                                                                            The key moment in my life happened on June 14th, 2003, a
                                                                                         Monday in which I made a significant sale, a great deal at first.
                                                                                         Back in that time I worked in all departments of the company, I
                                                                                         went out making sales, I bought the raw material and worked all
                                                                                         night in the production to make the deliveries on time. This sale
                                                                                         was not different, I produced and made the delivery in the agreed
                                                                                         upon date.
                                                                                            The night the customer was supposed to pay me, he sent in a
                                                                                         facsimile; more commonly known as a fax, maybe you never saw
                                                                                         this device, but it allowed people to transmit letters and messages
                                                                                         in real time attached to a phone line. I got scared when I saw the
                                                                                         fax paper with the message that he would not pay me and could
                                                                                         only do so in 24 installments. My whole planning was based upon
                                                                                         this sale and all my assets were directed to its production.

                                                                                            My only alternative was to go talk to him and I only had enou-
                                                                                         gh money to go to him. I went to the city of Guarulhos in the
                                                                                         metropolitan area of Sao Paulo and arrived early to talk to the
