TRIPLE BOWLINE




               Purpose

               Recalling  my  earlier  caution  about  improvised  chair  knots,  this  will
               accommodate a leg through each loop and provides a third one to go around the

               person’s chest beneath their armpits. Each loop must be painstakingly adjusted to

               the right size.



               Tying

               Make  a  long  bight  in  the  rope  and  simply  tie  a  common  bowline  with  the
               doubled portion of line (figures 1–2). As no end is involved, this is another of

               those handy knots that is tied in the bight.



               Knot lore

               The triple bowline was shown me by the Canadian climber Robert Chisnall.


               As can be seen from the boxed example above of the common bowline (page
               70), the triple bowline is tied in the same manner.
