Under the Respite Relief for Military and Veteran Caregivers program, caregivers of Veterans can apply to receive
approximately 24-hours of respite care from a CareLinx professional to help with companionship, cooking, exercising,
grooming, light housekeeping, medical and medication reminders, mobility assistance, transportation and other activities.
These services come at no cost to Veterans or their caregivers.
Since August, over 3,132 hours of respite care have been delivered to Veteran and military caregivers, granting them the
important opportunity to take a break from their work and have time for themselves.
“We’re excited to support the Elizabeth Dole Foundation in the expansion of this incredible respite relief program for family
caregivers of Veterans nationwide. Especially now, family caregivers need support, and this program is here to provide it,”
said Suzanne Shirley, Director of Community Engagement for VHA Innovation Ecosystem (VHA IE).
VA’s efforts to support Veterans and their caregivers will not stop here, though. Through VHA IE, VA will use this program as
a basis to launch a new partnership model for how public and private sectors can work together during times of crisis to
support military and Veteran families.
With the program now available nationwide, qualified caregivers interested in applying to the Respite Relief for Military and
Veteran Caregivers program can begin the process by applying here: www.hiddenheroes.org/respite.
