Ceramic Art Program for Veterans
Participate in a RESEARCH STUDY for Veterans
REGISTER NOW FOR ONE OR ALL OF THE MODULES
Each Module has six classes, and meets for 3 hours per class.
MODULE 1: Handbuilding and Sculpting| Saturdays - September 11 & 18, October 2 &16, November 6 & 20, 2021
Create sculptures and pottery using clay. Students will learn the basic skills of handbuilding, working with clay and glazes.
MODULE 2: Pottery on the Wheel | Saturdays - December 4 & 11, 2021, January 15 & 29, Feburay 5 & 19, 2022
Make plates and bowls on the potter’s wheel. Participants will also learn how to use and apply ceramic glazes for color and design.
MODULE 3: Raku| Saturdays - March 5 & 12, April 2 & 16, May 7 & 14, 2022
Objects made in class will be fired in a variety of techniques based upon the ancient Japanese art of raku.
Times: Classes will run from 1-4 pm.

Description of the Research Study:
This class is part of a research study for 10 to 60 Veterans. Researchers want to understand how making art might
change thinking, mood, and social activities of Veterans. During this research you will make pottery and have the
option to do art in between classes if you would like.
What this means to you:
Attend one or more Module (6 classes) | Attend 6 classes per module | Fill out a survey
Make art between classes (optional) | All materials are provided | No previous experience required
Participant Eligibility:
Open to Veterans who have not participated in a Veterans Art Course at Arizona Artists Guild
or Paradise Valley Community College.
