Adaptive Sports
Hiking: Phoenix VA
The PVAHCS Adaptive Sports Program embarks on new avenues of recreational and
competitive sports events designed for individuals with physical disabilities, such as Spinal
Cord Injuries, Traumatic Brain Injury, Amputation, and Visual Impairments, etc.
This clinic is for hikers of all ability levels. The hikes will include trails of easy to moderate
difficulty and elevation change. Hike locations are spread out across the valley, including
Papago Park, Thunderbird Park, Dreamy Draw, and South Mountain.
The purpose of this group is to introduce veterans to safe hiking practices, stretching and
stress management techniques, new hiking experiences, and an opportunity to socialize in
a fun outdoor setting.
How it Works
The clinic will meet every Wednesday promptly at 1300 in the designated parking lot
specified for each hike. Each session will start with a safety rundown before the hike begins
as the group embarks up the trail together. Each hike will last between 1 and 3 miles with
mild to moderate levels of elevation change and difficulty.
