To make the media safe for the whole family, there is the need for all
parents, guardians and teachers to understand the potential dangers
of the media and the need to protect their family from the threats that
comes with the information that is disseminated on media platforms by
1. Discussing the issues with family member of all ages.
2. Guide their children in the choice of media content when selecting
material for viewing, listening, reading, or entertainment.
3. Teach their children how to evaluate what they see, read and hear;
4. Teach their children that many people on social media are not who
they say they are and that they should not interact with strangers online;
5. Be aware there are international and national laws prohibiting the sale
and distribution of obscene and/or pornographic materials to minors, and
to inform the proper authorities when it appears these laws are being
violated;
6.Be knowledgeable about the availability of, and have the skills to use,
tools to restrict access to media they find inappropriate for their children;
7. Monitor their children’s usage of social media, gaming sites, and access
to inappropriate material on the internet;
8. Discuss the dangers of revealing personal information on social media;
9. Teach their children the risks of posting photographs online.
