Purchased in 1989 from family member Louis V. de la Vergne, a descenadnt of the comtesse The Comtesse married the Compe Pierre de la Vergne in New Orleans in 1780. This portrait is
illustrated and discussed in Brun,Louisiana Portraits, p. 76.
Value Support
Despite the loveliness of this portrait, the lack of a signature and the condition issues will hold its value back. The comparable sales used here are the same used for the Comtesse Loubies (see LP 4), but here, the subject portrait is valued considerably lower than those portraits.
