Etienne Meurnier was a refugee from the Haiti rebellion, and he fought at the Battle of New Orleans in Plauches' Battalion. The portraits are listed in Brun,Louisiana Portraits.

Identified Rinck portraits of this quality are rarely on the market. In fact, only one could be found (Comparable 1). More recent sales are of lesser quality portraits where the sitter is unknown. Comparable 2 is an older sale record, but a portrait of equal quality. Comparable 3 is a more recent sale, but a lesser quality example of Rinck's work.
