ANTHONY GELL SCHOOL SIXTH FORM ROSPECTUS 2020 — 2022

                                        The course is suited to those who have a genuine interest in the welfare of others. It is
                                        particularly suited to   people who wish to embark on a career in Health and Social Care,
                                        working  within  settings  such  as  a  Hospitals,  Care  Homes,  or  the  Special  Educational
                                        Needs sector. There are opportunities for students to become more involved in matters
                                        of health and social care, such as visiting ‘Take Heart’ Derby which is a support group for
                                        those suffering from heart disease and observing a rehabilitation programme.














                                         In  addition, students have the opportunity to complete training in first-aid and moving
          HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE
                                         and  handling.  This  would  mean  that  students  will  develop  personal  and professional
          COURSE OUTLINE — TWO           skills through interaction with people who work in the sector or require care or support.
          YEAR PATHWAY
                                         Students  undertaking  a  course  in  Health  and  Social  care  will  complete  both  centre-
          LEVEL 3  / BTEC / PEARSON      assessed coursework units as well as examined units on a range of Health and Social
                                         care topics. The course can either be taken as an extended certificate (equivalent to
                                         one A Level) which involves 4 units of work, or as a Diploma (this is equivalent to two A
          ENTRY REQUIREMENTS             Levels), which involves 8 units of work. Some examples of those topics are:
          FIVE LEVEL 2 GCSE OR           · Human Lifespan Development (How do we change as we grow?)*
          VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
                                         · Working in Health and Social Care*
          AT A MINIMUM OF GRADE 4/
          LEVEL 2 PASS INCLUDING 2 X     · Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
          GRADE 4 IN COMBINED SCIENCE
                                         · Physiological Conditions and their Care
          AND GRADE 4 IN ENGLISH.
          IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE
          DIPLOMA, YOU MUST ALSO
          TAKE THE EXTENDED
          CERTIFICATE. HOWEVER THE
          EXTENDED CERTIFICATE CAN BE
          TAKEN AS A STAND ALONE
          QUALIFICATION.
