Sixth graders get started with their first retreat at Priory.
in this garden
Every year, our middle schoolers undergo one
meaningful day devoted to their own retreat. The retreats are ways to explore nature and history, and reflect on their own self-interest and happiness. During the retreat, middle schoolers not only have fun, but strengthen their relationships and friendships within this harmonious community. This one-day experience leaves them with a deep impression and unforgettable memory in their heart.
This year, our sixth graders went to an on-campus retreat, during which they experienced the most unique parts of Priory while participating in many fun activities to become more familiar with each other. Their first stop was the newly-built Franklin Garden on the back hill. With assistance from upper-school students as well as parents and teachers, the sixth-graders had the chance to actually take care of the garden plants and feel the fantastic side of nature. They also learned some basic gardening skills, which reinforced their practical skills as middle school students. Moreover, they began to learn how to cooperate with the Priory community,
How would you describe your feelings toward the middle school retreat with two words?
I would describe it as wet and muddy. - Elliot Dauber (7)

I would probably say exciting and individual. - Josh Eichbaum (7)
working towards a goal that benefited not just them but the entire community.
After finishing the interesting and meaningful work in the Franklin Garden, the sixth graders had time to play and relax. They spent time in the Father Egon Plaza, where high school students organized several different and entertaining games for their younger classmates to relax themselves, and to hang out with their friends a little bit more. The sixth-graders all seemed to enjoy themselves quite a bit.
When the retreat came to the end, the last show part was the highlight and always most impressive part of the whole day. After having spent hours working and playing together, the students came together for one more activity. Led by the high schoolers and teachers, the sixth graders began a “journey” to reflect on a question to look deeper within themselves. They had just started a brand new “chapter” of their life at Priory and their awesome future stands waiting for them to explore.
