Panthers take time to remember Brother Edward for the legacy he left behind.
a priory treasure
Upon their return from winter break, Priory
students were shocked to learn that over their time off, they had lost one of the most cherished, valuable, and well-loved members of the community, Brother Edward Englund.
“Brother Edward was so wonderful in so many ways,” Father Martin said during his commemoration speech. “And boy, could he give a closing prayer.” Brother Edward's prayers, famous among the Priory community, “included six or seven 'each and every one's on a good day,” remembered Father Martin. “And there was always a little bit of milk and honey, and some mention of Abraham and Sarah. But boy, could he pray.”
Obviously, Brother Edward's closing prayers were not the only thing that we will miss about him. “He had a great laugh,” recalled Mr. Siler fondly. “My fiancée and I used to have serious conversations about whether it was possible to have a better
laugh than Brother Edward. The answer was always no.”
Brother Edward left behind quite the legacy at the Priory. His life and work left some sort of mark on every member of the Priory community. In his long pauses and slow speech, he reminded us to take our time when we needed to and not rush through life. Through his dedication to the community, Brother Edward demonstrated the profound impact that a single person can have with enough attention, love, and care.
“He was really special,” reminisced Laura Wu (12) of her former adviser. “We'll definitely miss him. He added such a spark to the school.”
The halls of Priory will never be the same without Brother Edward's laugh to echo down them. As Mr. McWright said in his farewell speech to our friend, mentor, and monk, “Brother Edward, we love you, we miss you, and we hope you're doing well.”
